The Volvo S90 is an all-new model for 2017, replacing the S80. It's the result of considerable research and design hours logged in Gothenburg, and is clearly built to impress. The Car Connection recently reviewed the new S90 and likes the look and feel both inside and out, as well as the engine options and new, very-advanced safety features, the latter of which is of course Volvo's bread and butter.

On the safety front, Volvo touts a few world firsts in the S90. This is, for example, supposedly the first car with large animal detection, which we suppose could actually come in handy in the wilds of Colorado. The standard system on the S90 will automatically brake you to a stop (or help significantly reduce speed) when a moose, elk or deer is detected. We assume it also works with bears. Furthermore, Volvo says the S90 is the first vehicle in the world with road-edge detection, in a system that doesn’t entirely depend on a painted shoulder line.
The S90 is also first model to have semi-autonomous driving features, called Pilot Assist, as standard. This system incorporates active cruise control, lane-keep assist, and forward collision systems and allows you to enable a system that will allow you to take your hands off the steering wheel for up to 15 seconds at a time. Volvo stresses that the system is optimized for divided-highway use.
