You wouldn't necessarily know it based on all the attention Mazda's Miata receives, but the automaker's Mazda3 compact sedan has become the automaker's bestselling model globally. This year the Mazda3 gets a nice mid-cycle refresh that features improved driving performance, a quieter cabin and an updated center console that is more intuitive. AutoGuide has a review of the new model.

The Mazda3 is available with either a 2.0- or 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, the latter of which generates 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque. It can be paired with either a manual or automatic transmission, both of which have six gears. Combined with a nimble steering setup, the car continues to display the kind athleticism that made it AutoGuide's 2014 Car of the Year.
For all the emphasis on drivability, the 2017 Mazda3 has a full suite of safety features. They include the available head-up display (now in full color, and capable of showing driving speed, speed limits, and direction of travel, among others), as well as emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, radar cruise control with traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning and lane keep assist.
