Pony cars by definition are considered to be fuel guzzlers by necessity, in order to produce powerful performance and acceleration. But Ford's EcoBoost engine technology continues to show its capability in heretofore unexpected places - like big trucks and, now, Ford's iconic Mustang coupe. AutoGuide recently had the opportunity to test the Mustang EcoBoost Fastback Premium and reports it simultaneously brings the power and the fuel efficiency.

640 × 480?

Under the hood of the Mustang is not a big V8 but rather a turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that, with the help of variable valve timing, direct injection and a twin-scroll turbo, produces an impressive 310 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. When paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, this particular Mustang manages EPA-rated fuel economy of 21 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.
